Asphalt Overlays/ Resurfacing

Asphalt overlay also known as asphalt resurfacing, or placing another layer over existing asphalt, may be ideal if the foundation of your existing pavement is in decent condition. If the driveway or parking lot that needs to be repaired does not need to be completely replaced our contractors may recommend an asphalt overlay/ resurfacing. Here are the steps that we take to ensure your pavement will last for years to come.

When we remove and replace your property’s asphalt, we will follow several steps:

  1. Assess the condition of the existing asphalt. Before beginning the removal process, we will first assess the condition of the existing asphalt. If the asphalt is in relatively good condition, it may be possible to resurface it instead of completely removing it. We will advise you on the best course of action.
  2. Prepare the work area. The work area should be cleared of any obstacles or debris that could interfere with the removal process. This may include removing any nearby trees or shrubs, as well as marking any underground utilities or other structures that could be impacted by the removal process.
  3. Use heavy equipment to break up the asphalt. We typically remove the old asphalt using heavy equipment, such as a skid steer or excavator, or grinder, to break it up into smaller pieces. This equipment also breaks up the asphalt and separates it from the underlying soil.
  4. Haul away the old asphalt. We load the broken up asphalt onto a truck and haul it away to a disposal site. The underlying base remains for the new asphalt to be installed.
  5. Prepare the area for new asphalt. After the old asphalt has been removed, the area is graded and leveled to prepare it for the installation of new asphalt. This may involve compacting the soil and adding a layer of gravel or other material to ensure a stable base for the new asphalt. The grading will ensure proper water drainage.
  6. Install new asphalt. Finally, once the area has been properly prepared, the new asphalt can be installed. This typically involves applying a layer of hot asphalt to the prepared surface and then compacting it with a roller to create a smooth, level surface.
